Devlog3

Welcome back to the third devlog for Legend of the Hero Slime! This time, I’m diving into some exciting new features, improvements from playtesting feedback, and additions that enhance both the gameplay and replayability of the adventure. Let’s jump in!

First, I’m thrilled to introduce the Hat Room, a new area in the game where players can showcase their slime’s stylish side. Hats are earned by collecting regional collectibles scattered throughout the different themed lands—Forest, Ice, Fire, and Castle. These collectibles are unique to each region, encouraging players to fully explore every nook and cranny of the world. The Hat Room is more than just cosmetic; it’s a trophy case celebrating your achievements and offering some fun customization options. Every hat tells a story of your adventures and serves as a badge of your progress.

In terms of game feedback, I recently conducted a playtest, and the results were overwhelmingly positive! However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing—some players struggled with the combat and movement mechanics. To address this, I’ve made significant changes to improve the player experience. The attacking animation has been completely revamped to make it more visible and impactful. Instead of the previous subtle motion, the slime now performs a clear thrust attack with greater reach, allowing for more dynamic and satisfying combat. This change has made attacking feel more precise and rewarding, giving players a stronger sense of control during battles.

One of the biggest takeaways from the playtest was the need for a better onboarding process for combat and movement mechanics. To tackle this, I’ve added two training rooms that help players sharpen their skills while earning rewards. The first training room focuses on positional combat, with dummies that teleport around the room. This challenge encourages players to practice precise movement and well-timed attacks, mimicking the situations they’ll face in the main game. The second training room shifts gears, testing the player’s agility and reflexes. Here, you’ll dodge incoming projectiles while collecting orbs for points. Both challenges are designed to be engaging and fun, with a scoring system that rewards coins based on your performance. These coins can be spent on items or upgrades, adding a layer of incentive to keep improving.

Adding these training rooms not only makes the gameplay more accessible for newcomers but also introduces a competitive element for experienced players aiming to perfect their skills. Whether you’re working on precise strikes or mastering evasive maneuvers, these challenges ensure you’re battle-ready for what’s ahead.

This devlog marks a major step forward in polishing Legend of the Hero Slime. The Hat Room brings more personality and replay value, the improved attack animations enhance combat fluidity, and the training rooms ensure a smoother learning curve while adding extra fun. I’m incredibly excited about these updates and can’t wait to see how you’ll explore, fight, and train in the world of Legend of the Hero Slime.

Stay tuned for more updates, and as always, thank you for your support!
