Dev Log 1

Dear potential pilot,

Our team is making a top-down shooting. The art style isn’t finalized yet, but the general style is the Player's and enemies' aircraft will be in pixel art form and the background would be a looping image unsure on using pixel art or hand-drawn. We have divided the team into two David and Colm will focus on coding while Michele and Kornelija focus on art. The player and enemy art will be shown in week 2.

For the coding side of the project, we’ve been learning how to code one from scratch. We are thinking of using the enemy bullet patterns from Uni Bullet Hell. If everything works, the game will have controller support. The movement would be under full control of the X and Y-axis. We are still thinking if we make the enemy should come in by waves or spawn from the sides. We need to make a hi-score system and a survival mode to make the game replayable.

The health system might come from thecodingmonkey but I tried it on my last project it’s not the best and we don’t want to take too much from Uni Bullet Hell.

The levels will be split into three Sea, Sky and Space each will ramp up with difficulty. Our plan is to make it that once the timer on the top of the screen reaches a certain point the background and enemies will change changes. But if it is too difficult to implement, we’re going to make the story mode level based.

The survival mode that was mentioned will be you have one life, and the goal is to get a high score. You can choose what difficultly by picking the stage. It will reuse assets from the main game.

The tutorial will be on the main menu. You can choose to play it or ignore it. It won’t affect your gameplay at all.

We are thinking of adding a codex involving the story of the game. You can unlock it by getting enough points. This isn’t in development at the moment and might be scrapped later.

During your battles, some power-ups will spawn to aid you in battle. The ones that are confirmed are Double shot (Unlock an extra gun for ten seconds), Timer (You increase the time on the timer which extends the stage which can lead to getting more points), Repair (Recovers health), and extra life (give you an extra life. The max is five).

This is our roadmap

Week 2: ship movement and timer will be made. Hopefully, the ship sprite is done by then.

Week 3: ship shooting, health, and enemy movement would be done while the art team do the assets and background

Week 4: The level, score system, and main menu should be done.

This roadmap can change.

Things like ship upgrades, local multiplayer, and more stages won’t be in the game at launch.

More pictures of the project will be shown in week 2. Thank you for your patience.

Thank you for reading
